Basement waterproofing is the single most critical step before any finishing work in Metro Vancouver, where over 1,200mm of annual rainfall, a high water table in many coastal and river-adjacent neighbourhoods, and persistent soil moisture create relentless hydrostatic pressure against foundation walls.

Pre-1960 character homes in Kitsilano, Dunbar, and the Drive area often have stone or rubble foundations that cannot be treated like poured concrete. These foundations require specialized parging, membrane application, and drainage approaches that account for the irregular surface and the need for the masonry to breathe.

Homes in Richmond, Delta, and low-lying areas of New Westminster face additional groundwater challenges due to the Fraser River delta's high water table, where sump pumps may run continuously during the wet season.
